I wrote a piece for the Guardian about the dementia-friendly town concept, which is currently being rolled out in Purley. It is one of many initiatives being considered for towns and cities as the average age of the population continues to rise.

It seems to me that we should have similar ventures for many other aspects of life. A sense of community has been lacking for so long. I moved to the Isle of Wight last summer and the care, concern and decency that’s missing elsewhere are abundant here. It’s a joy. As a woman now living on her own again, I feel safe and protected and know who to rely on in an emergency. I can’t tell you how often I nearly fall over when getting on or off my mobility scooter and a local is with me in an instant to see if they can help.
