New book: the ultimate guide to psychedelic London

I have co-written a new book, out later this month (November 2026).

I’d Love To Turn You On: The UK Psychedelic Underground 1965-1970 is a gorgeous multicolour celebration of dayglo London counterculture at the end of the 60s, focusing on the art, music, magazines and happenings.

Back and front cover

It’s published by Andrew Humphreys’s Paradise Road, who is co-writer along with Kevin Noakes and Jon Newey. I conducted several original interviews for my part of the project, talking to the founder of the very first London happening, the Spontaneous Underground at the Marquee, as well as those involved in UFO, Happening 44 and Middle Earth – plus the various landmark events of the era at the Roundhouse and Alexandra Palace. Jon then added his own personal recollections of these events.

Andrew spoke to several of the leading psychedelic artists of the era to get their memories, while Kevin wrote about the various light shows that were such a distinctive feature of the time.

It’s a really beautiful book and I can’t wait to see it in the shops. You can order a copy direct from Paradise Road via this link.
